Dear Bill,

One of my tennants cars was stolen from the driveway of our rental house last Sat. I am still waiting to hear more, but the police interest sounded luke warm...will update. TG

Hi Bill,

I think this site still has value to the Magnolia community. I know that it must be distressing to experience the apathy that has arisen since the falling crime stats.

I have only just heard that a woman on 42 W. was returning home on 12/09/08 during the early evening hours (dark) and while in the process of unloading her young kids from her car, she was grabbed by a masked suspect in dark clothing. She screamed out to a neighbor and the suspect fled with an accomplice dressed in a similar fashion. There is a staffing crisis in SPD and the Magnolia community is paying for it disproportionately. The criminals in our neighborhood aren't afraid, the citizens are.
If you take the site down, I would only urge you to be prepared to resurrect it when the next tragic and avoidable incident arises in the near future. No matter what you do, I am grateful for your invaluable services to the community.

Please stay in touch,
Stuart

No worries!

Thank you for this website. However, why do you continue to thwart my efforts to organize some sort of neighborhood watch program?

Thanks for such an informative site. What a great way for each of us to be aware of what is going on in our neighborhood.

Wonderful site - thank you for taking the initiative to start this. A neighbor told me about it (sent the link) since we have been broken into once and had cars burgled several times now.

I wrote up the details of our burglary on the "blog" associated with my membership page.

Hey Bill: Good for you with 342 members already and growing fast, I'm sure. For those in my block that I don't know well (or have e-mails for) I'm printing out a copy of the SPD report and walking it around to them tomorrow with copies of how to join your "sleepless" web group. Thanks so much again.
Years ago, something like this was happening and the police did find local kids responsible, so following up on that license plate is very good.

Lucy,

That is a great suggestion, and I'll try to figure out how to do something like that. It will be very simple however based on how much time I can spend on this.

Hi Bill:
Thanks for such an informative site. How about adding a timeline, a house hit vs car hit. Our house was hit Dec. 12 between 11:00-3:30pm. We are on 28th Ave W Maybe that will help us and the police establish a pattern.

Thanks again for all your efforts!

I think Nick has been invited.

Again, I believe that we need to keep two lines of discussion open:

1. How can we protect ourselves given the current allocation of taxpayer resources, and,

2. How can the mayor/SPD explain the current allocation???

Has anyone talked to Nick Metz (Asst. Chief of Police, Magnolia Resident, Blaine Dad)?

Bill: I loved your comment earlier today....."Power of the People". This site is a great example of that and the quality of the people who live in Magnolia. Response has been great. Sorry to say that the real problem here is with the allocation of funds in our city, or shall I say, misappropriation of funds. Sounds like SPD has asked for more funding for awhile. It kills me that funds are obviously needed here while the Mayor and City Council have become serial wasters of tax payer money on projects like the Monorail, the SLUT, etc. I heard that the SLUT cost $52 million for what we have now, and there are limited cars, and limited coverage. The bus tunnel from years past had to be retrofitted with rail and still is not totally operational. I digress. We need better accountability with the spending of our tax dollars..
